Mark Warner's Corsica Family Holiday Review

Mark Warner's Corsica Family Holiday Review

This will have been my 4th Mark Warner holiday split evenly between winter resorts and summer resorts. I reviewed the Levante Resort in Rhodes back here.
I did no research on this holiday however I knew that I wanted to go to corsica one day ok it's a resort but you still get somewhat an experience of a country/island.
Corsica sits above Sardinia and below the south of france so you are normally guaranteed good weather for part of or all of your summer holiday.

Here is the link to go direct to the Corsica Resort on the Mark Warner Website -  NOTE- Mark Warner now only go to Greece and Turkey 2023

The resort is located just south of Santa Lucia Di Moriani you will find a good sized supermarket here, otherwise not much of interest but you can buy some beach things around the town. It doesn't for example have restaurants at least not obviously. Opposite the resort check out what looks like a basic vegetable shop.

The Good Points

The staff. Always smiling and friendly and helpful to the extreme. Mark Warner knows the importance of this especially when you are trusting the staff with your most precious little ones.

The activities and plan for your week.

The resort size is ideal - your not too far from anything.

Top 5 Caribbean Islands for Spotting Undersea Wildlife

Some envision lazy days on luxurious beaches while dreaming of the quintessential Caribbean vacation. Adventure seekers picture hundreds of brightly colored fish flitting in and out from the coral reef. The Caribbean is known around the world for its incredible shallow reefs just off of island shores, making snorkeling one of the most sought after past times on the islands.

If you are interested in making swimming with the fishes, part of your Caribbean holiday, you will want to book your time on one of these islands:

Roatan

One of 3 islands known as the Bay Islands, Roatan is the largest and can be found off of the northern coast of Honduras. What makes Roatan and the Bay Islands so special is that they are severely under developed in comparison with the other islands in the Caribbean. This gives you a feel for what life was like in paradise before the western world discovered it.

Malta is an excellent city or short break destination

Malta as an alternative sun destination ?

Malta is an excellent city or short break destination | Hiking in Malta is scenic though it didn’t involve much climbing.

They say some things spoil Italy – take those away and you might have Malta. You wont get charged extra to have a seat while you enjoy your coffee.

For a family I might just recommend Malta but I heard that Gozo might be better in the beach holiday regard. I only had 3 nights on the island of Malta but saw an experienced a lot to tell you about.

In short there are some nice points to consider:

  • Malta has a lot of history
  • Malta has an attractive capital Valletta.
  • Malta has great weather
  • Malta has perhaps the best diving in Europe
  • Malta has some nice beaches (check proximity to hotel and reviews carefully I don’t think it has the number that say Greek islands have)
  • Malta has a great nature reserve where you can go for a hike.
  • Malta has the Popeye film set for kids.
  • Malta is one of the cheaper European destinations
  • Malta has an excellent area for cinema and nightlife including bars and nightclubs called Paceville sounds like patch-a-vil.

For people interested in a winter home away from the U.K. many love it. The British ties to Malta make things easy I met and spoke at length about this with one couple who were very happy in Mellieha.

Digging Beneath the Surface of Lima: PreColombian Archaeology By Mike Gasparovic

Digging Beneath the Surface of Lima: PreColombian Archaeology By Mike Gasparovic

For most travelers, Lima represents modern Peru—a city of trendy restaurants, discos, and shopping centers that one must pass through en route to the ancient marvels of Cuzco and Machu Picchu.

What few realize, however, is that Peru’s capital conceals ruins far older than anything built by the Incas. Beneath the desert sands of the region lie artifacts that date back not centuries, but millennia. These archaeological treasures were already turning to dust before the first stones were laid at Cuzco.

The two sites listed below are must-sees for anyone visiting Lima. Together they afford a glimpse of el Peru profundo—the deep Peru that continues to exert its pressure on the present.

Huaca Pucllana
Calle General Borgoño cuadra 8 (Miraflores)
445-8695

Located in the heart of ultra-modern Miraflores, just steps from the bustling Ovalo Gutierrez, this huaca (sacred monument) offers stunning testimony to the persistence of the past in Peru’s capital.

Hotel B: A Celebration of Life and Art By Barbara de Mul

Hotel B: A Celebration of Life and Art By Barbara de Mul

Imagine if the Great Gatsby was your uncle, and he was Peruvian, and invited you over for the summer….if this were true, your Hudson might have been the Pacific, and your room a lofty dream surrounded by great artists.

This brand new hotel (its first guests were welcomed in May 2013) is known as ‘The House of Barranco’ (La casa de Barranco), and this is exactly what the management aims for: a home away from home, but also a celebration of life and all things beautiful.

Barranco has always been known as the bohemian district of Lima, but up till now it never had a real ‘art hotel’. The art is as eclectic as its international visitors, and some of it is for sale, but mostly it is there to create a place of wonder, as a complement to the grandeur of the French classic architecture.

From the moment you set foot in the hotel, you’ll also see large coffee table books everywhere: ‘we want to spark people’s curiosity, inspire them and make them feel part of Peruvian culture but also of the whole world’ says Carlos Jimenez, a Spanish arts historian who now works for the hotel.

How to see Iguazu Falls in Argentina By Rachel Ricks

How to see Iguazu Falls in Argentina By Rachel Ricks

Iguazu Falls is at the top of the list for any traveller to Brazil or Argentina, or indeed, South America. This thundering collection of waterfalls is twice the size of Niagara, and being surrounded by lush tropical rainforest makes it quite a sight to behold and no surprise it was named one of the world’s New 7 Wonders of Nature.

Argentinean side versus Brazilian side
There is a lot of debate as to which side of the falls provides the best view. From my research, the consensus is: Brazilian side for the big picture; Argentina for close-up action.

How I did it
I was travelling up from Buenos Aires so I visited from the Argentinean side, waiting to see whether I felt I needed to go to Brazil, too. As it was, I was more than happy with what I saw and experienced, and being on a tight budget, skipped Brazil. In Argentina, you stay in a town that has grown up by the falls – Puerto Iguazu – which has plenty of good quality hotels, restaurants and tour operators.

What to expect at the Argentinean side of the falls
It’s very well organised – you pick up one of the regular buses that leave from Puerto Iguazu’s bus terminal to the entrance to the site, a journey of around 18km. Once you’re through the ticket offices, stop in the visitors’ centre for useful background knowledge and an introduction to the falls and their position in the rainforest.
