Congratulations to Rochelle and Marvin Humes! It's a Girl!!

Just as I suspected The Saturdays Rochelle Wiseman gave birth to a little baby girl this morning who they have named Aaylia May.

It was just last week that new daddy Marvin Humes, member of the soon to be defunct boyband JLS and now Capital Radio DJ, seemed to let slip the sex of their new arrival during an interview with the breakfast show host Dave Berry.

No details on weight as yet, more to follow.

But a big congrats from us!  xoxo

Infantastic practical travel cot

Infantastic is a German online store that specialises in, well you guessed it, products for infants. I recently purchased a travel cot via Amazon, and I must say, I am well and truly impressed. Although it has no formal name, the travel cot from which I bought from this company is simply a fantastic and very practical product. I have been informed that the NHS doesn’t endorse the use of the travel cot as permanent bedding for an infant, however I beg to differ and I really want to emphasize the practicality, the value for money and quality of this particular product.

I am led to believe that the health services advise against the use of the travel cot on a daily basis purely for the supposed facts that it doesn’t do your Childs back any good. The removable mattress provided with this particular product is very sturdy and although has “trenches” every few inches generally feels comfy. Even if this puts you off there is a solution to the issue, simply place a thick quilt over the top of the mattress so your infant can’t feel the trenches.

Ok, let’s get to the product itself. The travel cot that I now have in my possession arrived after four working days from Germany via a private delivery company. Once signed for I eagerly opened up the packaging and pulled out the already packed cot. The cot itself can be folded down, placed into a grey nylon carrier bag and transported around with great ease. I then proceeded to open the zipped up carrier bag and began assembling the item. The main body of the cot was incredibly simple to erect, and acts much like an umbrella once a little bit of weight in pressed into the centre of the body. The outer wall locks into place just by giving a sharp tug, pulling upwards and there you have it the travel cot is pretty much there.

On one side the cot has static legs that are sturdy and mirroring on the other side there are two lockable wheels, much like a push chair has. I would imagine this is there to lift up and push the very light bed around whatever room you happen to have your cot based in. Just above the static legs you have a semi circle, zip door which I believe is a fun way for your toddler to climb into bed at night. The other side has a very convenient elastic storage pouch from which you may place anything you desire, although the attachable changing mat is supposed to go at this end of the cot so I would imagine it’s for nappies, wipes etc...

Infantastic have added some very handy attachments to this brilliantly put together product. These include the attachable/ detachable changing mat, which your baby will sink into and is strengthened by four metal bars all round, probably to stop your infant from falling off. There is also an attachable hammock like attachment which is ideal for those of us who have bad backs and can’t lean all the way into the bed; according to the manufacturer the inlay has two settings for medium height. The hammock inlay is also strengthened by metal bars which are forced into place by tucking them into the slots provided. Another great add on is the mobile which can be removed and put back on at your own leisure and also can be manipulated to either lean into or lean out of the cot.

Pampers VS Huggies

Pampers VS Huggies

Now I’m not one for being completely and utterly biased, I’m also not one to slate a product into the ground, However when it comes to the two brands Pampers, and Huggies there is only one that comes out on top. I have been a father now for five weeks, and I have had the pleasure of using both these brands products extensively. Nappies, and baby wipes mostly, and I would like to explain why one beats the other hands down. But I also would like to highlight some of the downsides as well of the upsides to the products that both these brands manufacture.

Ok so firstly I want to start with the winner of the baby product battle, Pampers. I’m going to explain why as a parent, this should always take precedence when making a decision in your local super market.  Let’s start with the Pampers Nappies range, they appear to be generally larger than their Huggies counterpart, they absorb more fluid and generally look more comfortable to wear. I also believe that the material used in Pampers Nappies is also much kinder to babies’ skin, as Huggies nappies gave my son a nappy rash. Huggies nappies appear smaller; they also have a funky smell about them and do not retain liquid very well. When first using Huggies I found that my son would often be soaked through whilst wearing these non absorbent nappies. As for value for money Pampers are generally more expensive than Huggies, I recently found that on Amazon you can buy two packs of Pampers nappies (132) for less than £20, whereas Huggies was around £18 for 160. So really Huggies actually beats Pampers value wise. However if you want quality, endurance and generally nice smelling nappies you’ll want to invest a few extra pounds for Pampers.

Pampers baby wipes beat Huggies baby wipes purely on the basis of ease of access. For those of you that have tried to retrieve a wipe from a pack of Huggies will know that they stick together, and once removed they tend come out in a bulk. Pampers wipes are a lot easier to pull out as they are thinner and not so water heavy. The fragrance from these wipes isn’t as strong as its counterpart and is usually cheaper to buy. However once again Huggies prove to be cheaper to buy, as Amazon, sell Pampers baby wipes, 12 x packs of 56 for £10, whereas Huggies wipes were 12 x packs of 64 for less than £12. So although cheaper to purchase, Huggies simply doesn’t match the high quality and sensitivity of its higher end but more expensive counterpart.

The top 5 baby products I couldn’t live without

I really wanted to write a quick review on the top 5 baby products that I currently own. Seeing as my son was born just over a week ago, I was hoping to provide some basic advice. Now I must say thanks to some of these products some of my greatest fears have been laid to rest. The bottle steriliser that only requires 90ml of water and 4 minutes in the microwave and the baby monitor that displays the baby’s body temperature, and heart rate. Here are just a few amazing pieces of baby kit that I think all parents should consider investing in.

Toddler clothes – 5 essential pieces

Kids grow so fast that they usually grow out of their clothes before they wear them out. This is especially true for toddlers who usually need the next size up within 3-6 months. So to save some money you could try to buy clothes that mix and match well and cover the essential pieces necessary for a complete wardrobe. The following is list of five items that work really well together. Before we begin it's important to choose three basic colours that can be worn together. These three can also be added to with the neutrals of black and white. I really like navy, green and tan for my boy, but choose whatever works for you. Going with whatever colours are popular in boys fashion at the moment also makes shopping easier.

Basic t-shirtA basic plain t-shirt is always a good clean look. Finding plain t-shirts can be a challenge, but they are out there. In cooler weather these are great as a layering garment and in summer it looks great on its own. For a slightly dressier look put over the top a short sleeve shirt with an interesting pattern (see below).

Short sleeve shirtsThis is where you cold spend a bit extra on something nice with an interesting pattern, but remember to stick within your three main colours. This will be the hero piece of your child's out fit.

Shorts or pantsAgain stick to some plain pants without too much detail. This makes it easy to match all of the other clothes. Jeans are always a great look in pants, but be careful to choose something with soft fabric because most toddlers do a lot of sleeping in their daytime clothes. Whether you want them to or not, they have a tendency to fall asleep in the car or the pram.

JumpersThis is another item that you could spend a bit extra on and go for something with nice detail. With the pants and t-shirts plain this will always match if you stick with the three basic colours. I found out the hard way that you also don't need to buy too many jumpers because most toddler don't sit still enough to get cold.
