How to start yoga at home

What is the difference between yoga pants and leggings?

If you are thinking about starting yoga or are new to the practice, then you probably have a few questions about what to wear and how to get started.  

As a guide, leggings tend to be a slightly thinner material, usually a cotton based mix with lycra and are tight fitting from top to bottom, with an elasticated narrow waistband.  Yoga pants are usually made from a thicker jersey, flare sightly at the ankles and have a wider waistband than can be folded down as you require.  You will find that you pay more for yoga pants than leggings as they are made for a specific purpose, rather than a general fashion item.

The benefits of investing in yoga pants is mainly that you can rely on them staying in place throughout the various yoga poses, whereas leggings will need constant readjusting, something that will just distract you during the transitioning from one yoga pose to the next!  Also, you do not have to confine your yoga pants to only when you are doing yoga, as they are considered a modern take on female sweatpants and therefore perfectly acceptable as outdoor wear, making the initial cost more palatable.

As with all things, it's personal choice, but at least now you can answer that question and make an informed choice that's right for you.

I found yoga with adriene about a year ago and I do use it often when I am too lazy to go out for a swim or run. It is great for getting stretched out but also for getting tone. I dont need to look for any other teacher!
