Is the sentimental value of photo albums forever lost?
Photo sharing nowadays is mostly done over the internet. Almost every photograph we take ends up on some of the social media. So, instead of intimate sharing dear photographs with close friends while sitting at the table, drinking a cup of coffee or tea, and commenting all those lovely moments captured in one memory, today we share captured happy moments with hundreds of people, and most of them we do not know well.
Book of remembering
Although we seem to forget, when we hold a photo album, there is some special feeling of nostalgia, intimacy, it is all about the memories and you know that that special “book of remembering” is meant to be kept forever.
On the other hand, when we look at the pictures on internet, we are more concerned about how other people are going to react on the appearance of the photograph, how many likes they’ll give to your clipping from time. And when their fifteen minutes of fame end among hundreds of Facebook news feeds, they are forgotten. Does that mean that the photograph as an object of sentimental value is diminishing in this era of image and information overload? Will we allow that? Wouldn’t it be remarkable if we try to save that culture of remembrance? Maybe revive it and redefine it?
Creatively reinventing the photo album
There are tons of ways to use printed photographs as a house decoration and trough them make a home out of a house.
Sleep on it
You don’t have to restrict photographs to frames. If you want something completely different, turn some of your favorite snaps into cushions covers or lampshades.
An album on your wall
Create a photo montage wall filled with pictures that are dear to you. Use minimalist style frames of varying sizes, let the colors and content of the pictures tells your story.
Create a wallpaper
Out of some special photo, create your very own wallpaper. A beautiful photograph printed onto wallpaper creates a dramatic statement wall. Panoramic scenes work the best, such as a woodland shot or a row of images lined up in succession.
Posterize
Instead of making montages, collages, and printing pictures one by one, why not just make posters out of your photographs? If you want to turn your pictures into something resembling a photo album and is at the same time, art work that compliments your home, choose a group of photos that you would normally put in a traditional photo album, and turn it to a special memory wall.
One can’t deny all of the advantages that digital age brought to photography. It is now available to everyone. Every person can take a picture, and every picture can be shared with everyone. But, there are those special moments that we want to be able to touch and feel all of the emotions that provoked us to take that shot. The good thing is that one does not exclude the other. We can still share our photos online, and in the same time, some of the dearest photographs we can use to make home out of our house, and to share them only with special people that are guest in our home.
