E200 Dual Dash Camera
E200 Dual Dash Camera

A dual camera 4k in car camera with lots of features such as App, GPS, High quality sensor. I'm going to be installing to my BMW 3 series which I am very attached to after all this time. I blogged her here.

First Impressions Unboxing

I got the main box and polybag fuse box connector kit. The cigarette lighter option was always limiting to only use during driving, and though I don't smoke the cigarette lighter is useful for other connectors such as charging my phone etc. Or simply I can now shut the ashtray up!

Installation

I have never installed a dash cam with the always on power so that it can record timelapse footage or be recording while there is no ignition in. This gives some real benefits in the event you get smashed while parked there could be footage before and after as the unit would auto detect a bump and auto save the previous and next minute or so of tape. Most of the time was spent getting to know more about my fuse box and finding which slot would work. I didn't have a multimeter to check and you won't likely too. But it will just not work right if you get a wrong slot so just make sure you connect up the earth first and then try and get a slot combination that works.

You don't have to go to this route, a cigarette cable is provided and allows the quickest way to get setup.

Cameras
Cameras attach via a film which annoyingly i managed to get small specks of dust on. I would have liked more of those in the box. Also note the front camera can slide out if you give it space with the items around it. So plan the position carefully. The rear attaches in the same way but is much lighter and simpler. In my car I found it easy to tuck the cable between the panels. Just make sure to wash your hands and take time for a better end product. The rear to front connecting cable USB type C was way too long by around a meter if not 2! So you might have to plan to tuck the excess away.

Turning on the first time

I got some voice saying there was recording happening and once the app was downloaded and installed I was able to see it seemed to be working. My car shuts off the camera wifi after a short period, if the radio is on this also gets shut off. I don't have a new car battery and in winter I get some warnings. It makes me wonder if the setup is correct for the fuse box. I will test further and edit this as needed.

When turning off the ignition there is a cut in the camera wifi. But will the camera continue to work...remains to be seen. I do see settings in the app for the camera around parking sensor which was something they said you know when its worked.

The App

Downloading on my android was easy the QR code took me to the play store, so that made me fee better about using a Chinese App. I did find the camera wifi kept turning off and wonder if this is by feature.

Overall I found the installation went easier than expected. And it's going to be different for everyone and their make of car.

Coming soon, video quality tests and in depth reviewing.
