Bags for the spring season

Now that the fashion weeks are over we can finally reflect on what we have seen from the New York, London, Milan and Paris catwalks and marvel in the beauty of the clothing and accessories from the worlds top fashion designers. You can find a host of designer bags as well as stunning designer fashion at Cavells. The catwalks showed us a varied mix of structured bags and while we did see some fantastic oversized styles, the focus was on clutches and small day bags.

This Diana Von Furstenberg bag has everything you may want from a small spring bag. It’s subtle pop of yellow shows a fresh and feminine side to a simple white bag, and the embellishments give the bag plenty of visual interest. The bag is only small, but big enough for anything you might need on a spring day out. DVF has once again hit the bullseye.

Personally I love Marc Jacobs. He always manages to create a unique designer style which can be incorporated into your exciting wardrobe. His accessories are guaranteed to be the things which will stand out and be remembered on an outfit. This Marc by Mac Jacobs shoulder bag is exactly that accessory. Its vibrant colour is guaranteed to jazz up even the most boring of work outfits.

Denim is back!

Denim has been a huge character in the recent spring summer 2013 fashion weeks. Denim might not have ever actually been away, but now it has become a staple material in designer fashion.

We all have a pair of jeans in our wardrobes which we absolutely love and could not live without, but they have always been for casual days or for everyday work wear. In the past we wouldn’t dream of going on a posh date wearing a pair of jeans. Well, now all that is changing. Denim is being reformed and becoming a fashion staple. Its not just the high street which have given their denim ranges a make over, it has been the luxury fashion world which has brought back this craze and fashion houses such as Chanel are creating stunning denim outfits.

Statement and bold jeans such as the Religion Jeans available on Serene Order are becoming more and more popular. Denim shirts, dungarees and pinafores are all coming back with a vengeance too. The catwalk is full of top fashion designers giving denim a new identity with their own interpretation of denim-wear offering new shapes, shades and cuts.

Jeans have become more than just casual wear, and they can be found in many colours and designs which were not seen in the past. They are smart, distressed, baggy, tight, flared, skinny, high waist and low cut, everything you could ever want in a pair of jeans is available on the high street now. The denim jean infinite longevity is in their ability to be transformed, their comfort and the fact they can be effortlessly paired with almost anything. New and improved, flattering cuts mean that jeans just get better and better, whether dressed up or dressed down. Jeans are a universal language.

But as denim makes a huge splash back into the fashion world, it’s not just the jeans we have to look out for. Its everything! Dresses, coats, skirts, shirts, boob tubes, shorts, everything. Designer’s
have given denim coats and dresses a classic, structured cut, same colour seams are used as opposed to the traditional contrast stitching offering ‘brand new’ look denim instead of a worn look. Denim shirts and loose fitting tunics are paired with denim A-line skirts and bra tops.

James Bond Style through the Ages

James Bond is probably better known for his fashion sense than his actual secret agent accomplishments. Throughout the years no matter who has played the legendary 007 they have remained looking sleek and supreme. We know we will not be disappointed with James Bond’s style no matter which film we may be watching, or who might be playing James himself. A good old fashioned tailored suit seems to be a Bond staple. Suits as well as shoes make Bond exactly what he is, a style icon. You can find a host of stylish men’s shoes at Frank Wright. Take a look at how, if at all the 007 style has changed with the ages.

Barry Nelson

The original James Bond, Barry Nelson played the character of 007 in a 1954 TV movie based upon Ian Fleming's book, "Casino Royale.” There we see the start of the suit style we have grown to know and respect about the beloved British character.

Sean Connery

Next came Sean Connery who played the first Bond in a feature film in 1962. He would go on playing the secret agent for 7 more films. From bright, colourful polo shirts to the stark, white tuxedo jacket and black slacks, Connery’s wardrobe proved to be the most copied and enviable style. As the originator of the role, the looks established by Connery are what costume designers continue to define as the Bond look.

Roger Moore

After Connery agreed to return for only one more film the hunt resumed for an actor to take on the now wildly popular role of James Bond. This time around, producers opted for Roger Moore. Moore would go on to play the role in seven films throughout most of the 1970s and into the mid-1980s. Moore’s, Bond style was flashy, eye catching and detailed, the emphasis on colourful ties and large flares make this era unforgettable.

Pierce Brosnan

It would take six years for James Bond to return to the big screen. Pierce Brosnan, who famously was offered the role 15 years earlier but was forced to back out due to his television series, "Remington Steele," took on the role of 007. He would go on to play the spy in four films, with each of his films proving to be box office successes. Brosnan brought with him suits, suits and even more suits. Comfortable and classy, sophisticated and chic, Brosnan offered a relaxed, modern take on the classic style of 007.

Top tips for finding the right lighting for your home

Each room in your home will require a different lighting to create a homey living space. The living room will probably benefit from tall standing lamps which will give a cosy feel put also allow enough light to reach across the whole room. The bedroom will be more suited to table lamps at the side of your bed, perfect for winding down on a night with a book. As for your kitchen and bathroom these two rooms will require ceiling lights which compliment the décor of the room itself, but are also practical for the day to day use of a kitchen and bathroom. Here I have laid down my top tips for finding the perfect lighting for your home:

Living Room Lighting

In this room you need to get the lighting just right, too dark the room will feel hard and unwelcoming and too light it will feel cold and clinical, neither of which is wanted in a living room. Designer lighting is essential of a stylish living room, it is striking and noticeable, you can find designer lighting at Castlegate Lights. The right ceiling light will give a wow-factor to your living space. A great idea is to add a dimmer switch to control the brightness of your light.

Lamps give a living room more personality and can be easily moved around the room to create different looks. There are many tall standing lamps to choose from so make sure you choose one which will compliment your décor but also stand out in its own right. Floor standing lamps are great for bringing extra light to a dark corner.

Bedroom Lighting

A good bedroom light will help you wind down at the end of the day and relax you into a deep slumber, preparing you for the day ahead. Bedroom lighting needs to be subtle enough so you can comfortably read a book at the end of the day, but also bright enough so you can get dressed in the morning. Having either wall lights or lamps placed at both sides of your bead create ideal reading light. Wall lights can also be repositioned so you have more freedom where you want to give more lighting too.

If you have a dressing table it is a good idea to have a light at each end of the table. This will avoid casting a dark shadow across one side of your face so it will be easier to apply make up.
