Doing makeup, either on an everyday basis or for a night out, offers a fun and interesting way to express yourself and emphasize the features you like best. But when you're a beginner in the makeup domain, even the simplest of looks can seem intimidating, because there's so much you have to take care of! How do you apply different products? Have you chosen the appropriate color? Here are some tips and tricks worth knowing, that will make your morning routine just a tad easier!

Apply Makeup in a Natural Light

Some bathrooms have subtle, dim lights that contribute to their mystique feeling – and you want to be doing your makeup as far from these as possible. Applying your makeup in natural light will give you the best judgment of what your look will be like when you actually go outside. Try installing your makeup station or vanity table near a window. If you don't have access to natural light, then consider investing in a magnifying mirror with lighting.

Take Good Care of Your Skin

Every and any makeup routine requires skin as clean and healthy as possible. Of course, most of us don't have access to $200 products on an everyday basis, but that's no excuse to neglect skincare. When cleansing and moisturizing before makeup, also make sure to pay attention to the condition of your skin, because it can change throughout your life. Are there any changes? Rashes, breakouts, redness, itchiness? Monitor them over several days, as they can point to possible allergies or food sensitivities. If they persist, ask for your dermatologist's opinion.

 Buy Quality, Not Quantity

When you're starting out, you don't need to buy just as many tools and products like your favorite makeup artist. Focus on quality of things you're getting, and also make sure that they can be used for multiple purposes. For example, get a beauty blender that gives great coverage for a foundation, but can also be used for blending all makeup. Angle brow brush is great for your eyebrows and smudging eyeshadow. If you want a single brush for contouring and blush application, large angled contour brush is what you're looking for. Similar goes for products. You'll need a mascara and a lipstick, and as you get more comfortable, start increasing selection of lipstick colors and venture off into blushes, eyeshadows, foundations...

 Give Your Eyebrows Love

Eyebrows can be a perfect frame for your face, but only if done well. First things first: don't over pluck, and definitely don't draw dramatic fake ones! Fill them in with a brow pencil or an eyeshadow, but try to find a color that's close enough to the shade of your natural brows. If you can find the same one, that's perfect, but if not, maybe go a shade lighter. Of course, if they're very light and blonde, you can go a bit darker to define them more.

 Curl Your Lashes

A good mascara is your best ally in achieving all sorts of looks – from minimal to vamp. An excellent way to have beautiful long and curled lashes is to master the use of an eyelash curler – it might seem intimidating at first, but it's easy to use like one, two, three. It will maximize the volume of your lashes and also make your eyes look bigger and brighter. If you don't have the time for doing that every morning, or just don't feel like it, you can opt for quality fake lashes that will give you almost done makeup look without any effort!

 Wash Your Makeup Brushes Regularly

This is not a trick, but nevertheless, a very important thing to remember for anyone who has delved into the world of makeup. You have to clean your brushes regularly – once a week is fine – because otherwise they will collect debris and dust, and you don't want that touching your face, do you? Don't take the risk of introducing bacteria to your skin, and set aside the time to wash the brushes. Do it with warm water and shampoo or liquid hand wash. When washed, lay them on a clean towel to dry.

Know When to Apply Concealer

If you have dark under eye circles, or any minor blemishes, it can be easily covered with a concealer, which is why you need to find the perfect shade of this wonderful little product. But a common mistake in beginners is applying concealer before applying foundation. This doesn't work very well: applying foundation first will cancel out a lot of the unevenness in your skin, and adding a concealer afterward will ensure full coverage.

Ensure Your Makeup Stay Where You Want ItEnter heading here...

Sometimes, if you'll be spending the whole day outside of the house, you might enter lady's room in the evening and be shocked over your smudged makeup. Prevent this catastrophe from happening by using a good primer. A primer is a base that goes under your makeup, and not only does it create a smooth surface and moisturizes the skin underneath, which are very good reasons to use it in the first place, but it also helps makeup last longer. By applying a quality primer when you know you won't be able to check your makeup every now and then, you'll ensure everything stays where you put it!

Makeup is a great way to play and learn. So play! Don't obsess over mistakes – it's easy to wipe everything down and try again. The more you do it, the better you'll become!
