She died at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles surrounded by her four children after having been hospitalized six weeks ago with congestive heart failure, a statement from publicist Sally Morrison said.

"My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world," son Michael Wilding said in a statement. Its an incredibly sad day as a real queen of the silver screen passed away yesterday. Having been ill with heart problems for some time it was no less shocking for us. One of the late Michael Jacksons closest friends one would hope they meet up again in the big ranch in the sky.
Less well known to many of us was the fact that she paved the way for celebrity fragrance, 'White Diamonds' scent reaching sales of $61.3 million worldwide it is reported.
Well known for her staring role as Cleopatra and having eight marriages to seven different men, does that mean she married one twice ? We would like to know more..
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf was said to be her finest on screen performance and won her an Oscar in 1966.
